This article aims to introduce how to run your services in China. First, introduce ICP (Internet Content Provider) Filing and CN2 network (Chinatelecom Next Carrier Network) and introduce the notion of China Acceleration services in different cloud platforms.

What is ICP Filing and CN2 Network?

ICP Filing (Internet Content Provider)

Suppose you want to run your website service, or users can access your website service in China. In that case, you must submit ICP Filing to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT), including any endpoints required, such as ports 80, 443, and 8080.

CN2 Network (Chinatelecom Next Carrier Network)

The 163 net (ChinaNet) is the primary network in China, and all of the users connect to this network. When all users access the network at the same time, it might cause latency. Hence, CN2 is constructed to provide a stable and faster network service. The price of CN2 is also relatively higher than the price of the 163 net.

Different type of China Acceleration services

Alibaba Cloud

Alibaba Cloud provides CDN, Dynamic Route for Content Delivery Network (DCDN), Global Accelerator (GA), etc. CDN and DCDN mainly include three categories of accelerated areas. The first one is in China; the second one is outside China; the third is Global, which the area includes within China. Therefore, if you choose the accelerated area that provides for China, such as China and the global, remember to submit an ICP filing for the website operation successfully.

If customers need to run website services available to users in China and enable them to fast access the website, using China Cloud Platform, such as Alibaba Cloud, is a good way. Alibaba Cloud has the most maximum number of nodes in China. Having more nodes means that users have a better user experience while they access websites. Above are brief introductions about CDN and DCDN.

On the other hand, if a customer works in Beijing and needs to retrieve data frequently in the source station in Taiwan. He could use Global Accelerator (GA), which set up the pick-up point in Beijing and the drop-off point in Taiwan. After setting an accelerated place, it could reduce latency and prevent packet loss.

Tencent Cloud

Tencent Cloud also provides the same services as Alibaba Cloud’s:
CDN, DCDN, Global Accelerator. Also, CDN and DCDN mainly include three categories of accelerated regions: China, outside China, and Global, which the region includes within China. If you choose the accelerated region that includes China, such as China and the global, remember to successfully submit an ICP filing for the website operation.
Even though what nodes Tencent Cloud has is less than Alibaba Cloud’s, Tencent Cloud still offers a high-quality network service, which is not worse than Alibaba Cloud service. There are still many customers satisfied with Tencent Cloud service.

Web Hosting in Hong Kong

Another option for users is to rent a machine from Hong Kong machine vendors.
The host server connects a CN2 IP address and CN2 network to transmit data to end-users in China. Clients can host in Hong Kong and set the source station in Taiwan with a reverse proxy public network because the geographical location between Taiwan and Hong Kong is close. Thus, it is practicable to use a public network but need to add the whitelist into the host server in Hong Kong, to provide stable, low-latency web services in China.

China Acceleration

Summary

Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud:
  • CDN & DCDN
CDN and DCDN are based on the seventh layer protocol of OSI. Users can use these services without complicated steps. First, fill in the source station IP address and select the region you want to accelerate in the cloud platforms. After setting these details, you would receive a URL to forward to the domain name of the source station by CName.
  • Global acceleration
Unlike CDN and DCDN retrieving data from nodes and optimized routers, Global acceleration is similar to connecting two places for acceleration.
Web Hosting in Hong Kong:

The host server in Hong Kong ties the CN2 IP address, allowing your service
to operate by a high-quality network in China. It has more flexible owing to base on the fourth layer service.

If your services are all static resources, using CDN service is better for you.
Users could faster retrieve data by the closest nodes around them. If your services are a dynamic resource that needs to update data frequently, then the above services could satisfy your needs. These services could achieve well acceleration and stable service without unexpected termination for users in China.
